WTR Outfitters

Located just east of the town of Ovando, WTR Outfitters is the oldest and most established outfitter operating in the 1.5 million acre Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. We offer guided summer pack trips and both guided and unguided big game hunts. Our livestock and guides will take you to breathtaking areas where no roads or motorized machinery exist.

Chinese Wall
We can travel anywhere in "the Bob" on our summer pack trips, visiting such natural wonders as the Chinese Wall, the Flathead Alps, the limestone cliffs and caves of the Scapegoat, the Trilobite Range, Schafer Meadows, the famed South Fork of the Flathead River, and an endless array of parks, meadows, mountains, lakes, and streams. Our pack trips operate in traditional mountain packing style: clients and staff ride on horseback and all gear is packed classically with canvas manties on mules. We offer comfortable accommodations and top off the experience with hearty yet sophisticated bistro style cuisine that you would never expect in the backcountry. Choose from a pre-planned trip or create your own.

Our three hunting camps – one in the Bob Marshall and two in the Scapegoat Wilderness areas – offer various landscapes and set-ups in which to pursue elk and mule deer in a fair chase, backcountry setting. Travel into the backcountry is on horseback, with daily hunts involving riding and extensive hiking in rugged terrain. Enjoy updated amenities, fabulous bistro style cuisine, and camps with no more than six hunters at a time. Our able-bodied, knowledgeable, and motivated guides will take you on the hunting experience of a lifetime.

Owner Mike Kmon is a natural born outdoorsman, having been a hunting and fishing guide in the backcountries of Montana and Wyoming for seven years before purchasing WTR Outfitters. While his knowledge and appreciation of the natural world is extensive, his true loves are fly fishing and elk and mule deer hunting. Mike first started coming to Montana at the age of 14 to spend summers working on his brother's cattle ranch, which inspired him to attend Montana State University, where graduated with a BS in Secondary Education. He's thrilled to spend his life doing what he loves and sharing his knowledge with others. He runs the business side-by-side with his wife, Megan, and a team of passionate and capable guides, packers, wranglers, and cooks.
